The Heart of the Matter
The EKG graph. Just a series of repetitive peaks and valleys that just looks like a simple line. However, it is much more complex than this. Just like it can map out the swinging of the plot of a story, it can also map out a life. It is not only the very picture of what it looks like to be alive, but its shape perfectly represents the shape of a life worth living. It has a plethora of low spots, as does one's life. This could be anything from getting a flat tire on a rainy day, to losing your job. These downs are balanced out, however, by the tall, mighty peaks of the high points of life, like someone helping you with your tire, or having an opportunity to spend time with your kids because you don't have a job. The downs in our lives make us tough and resilient, while the ups boost our morale. If these aspects of life were missing, our life would be a flat-line, and we might as well be dead, which is exactly what someone would be if their EKG graph looked like a flat line. The ups and downs in life are what make it worth living. Without them, our lives would be like the cold, dead heart of a corpse laying on a hospital bed; useless.
